Make Your Screen Room Special

Tis the season for feeling good outdoors. Enjoying your outdoor living space can be difficult if it does not suit your needs or style. We have a lot of outdoor living upgrade options but we wanted to focus on screen rooms for a moment. Screen rooms are a simple and inexpensive way to protect your outdoor living space.

We love our outdoors and sometimes we have to experience it from home. Regardless of where you are located, you’ll come to find the south has mosquitos, horse flies, and more annoyingly biting creatures that you want to keep out of your area. You may also have a need to keep children and pets close by. Screen rooms would give you the best of both worlds, all while preserving the fresh air and other enjoyable traits nature has to offer.

Now that we are really discussing screen rooms, let’s cover a few ways to make them more personal to you. The first thing to consider when you are creating your screen room is if you are adding screens to an existing structure or building a full screen room. For instance, do you already have a brick partition separating your covered patio from the rest of your yard? If so, consider screening in the exposed portion. You can add a retractable screen system to use when you want them or you can make them a stationary part of your property to where they cannot be moved or adjusted. Stationary screens are mendable over time with wear and tear and have frames that make it easy to remove the screen panels. Alternatively, retractable screen systems require a power source and tend to cost more but they give you more options.

Another great reason to consider a screen room is to protect your pool. It will assist in keeping the cleaning and maintenance of your pool at a minimum since bugs, leaves and other debris would be kept out of the pool that you would normally have to clean out often.

If you do not have an existing patio or cover of sorts, we suggest a patio top. You can add a patio top or have your existing roof extended to cover your patio or porch. You can add floor to ceiling screen enclosures, with multiple finish options and the opportunity to have it fully enclosed or add a door. You can add ceiling fans and recessed lighting to your patio top or other patio ceiling. Shiplap, exposed wood beams and other details would give your space a customized look.

Once the overall construction and remodel of your screen room is finished, give it your own aesthetic. Create a dynamic seating area with patio furniture and rugs from a local outdoor furniture retailer. Add indoor/outdoor potted plants and wall decor if you’d like. You can tile, paint or acid stain the floor for a special detail.
